Nursing. And Nursing and Nursing and Nursing

Oh, it is going SO much better than it EVER went with Bean.

We have, though, had two nights in a row now (and I feel certain we're headed into a third) of those lovely, lovely (sarcasm) cluster feedings that make me feel like my eyeballs are soon going to be sucked into my head and shot out my nibbles. Seriously. UGH. But the cluster feedings are doing the trick to get Mafew what he wants eventually as ZOIKS! the milkies let down frequently between daytime feedings.

Does anyone have a chart or easy reference of when the growth spurts most commonly happen for baby? I'd go look it up in Alice's diary, but that might take some time. Which I don't have much of. Because I am always nursing. Yeeps!

WHEEEEEEEEEEE!

Hey, I'm in the midst of one of those blessed growth spurts myself. (sigh).
They are usually at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 3 months and 6 months. Matthew isn't 3 weeks old yet, though, so I don't know what he's doing. But it is great to hear that things are going so much better this time! :o)

Way to go, Mama!

I have to say that I never reallky noticed the cluster feedings. I just went with it, and adjusted. I somehow miss those days though. I miss the closeness at night. sigh....
It will pass quickly. Give Mafew a hug from us!

Megan, I am so so so proud of you. You are doing a phenomenal job and giving little Mafew exactly what his body needs. The cluster feedings are very difficult. Camden did most of his during the day, which is actually what you may want to try encouraging more of. I remember that is what helped with me, just to feed him really often during the day. My boobs woudl get super dee duper big at night, but I used to get to where Camden wouldn't even need to cry for milk at night, just scooch a bit, and I woudl latch him on, fall back to sleep and we'd be happy. I can't wait for all that again. I only hope I can revel in it so much more peacefully the second time around.

Cluster feedings are typically anytime within the first 14 days, and then on the 3's (within a 5 day range). 3 weeks, 6 weeks, 9 weeks, 12 weeks and then they just kinda come and go for a few months.

The cluster feedings are building your milk supply, so be sure to drink even more and eat a few extra snacks to keep the milk production up.

Also, Lansinoh has a great ointment/nipple cream that you can apply after every feeding. That was what saved me from crying every time she nursed for the first 3 months!

Cluster feedings are fine...it could be that he was really hungry since your milk took a day or two to come in? Now Matthew is making up for lost time, perhaps?
I think it is best for your milk supply to just "go with the flow" (haha, milk pun!) and don't try to set up a "schedule" until around 3 or 4 months.
You can do it, Mama!
